Cyclists on the Via Francigena in Tuscany are expected to give way to a field. Seriously.

Here we go! Leaving Siena for Rome on a Via Francigena package that includes an e-bike. Unfortunately it came with just two bars of battery, so all but about 5km of the first 55km were done without electric assistance.

[Image taken 18.10.21] Bootham Terrace, York. Today a driver overtook me using the parking spaces to the right. I was battling uphill in the rain. This was a new but further example of the impatient and intimidating behaviour of drivers her ... [more]

[Image researched and created 10.10.21] Bootham Terrace, York. Scarborough Bridge was replaced with a (mostly) accessible structure in early 2019. From then until early 2021 I didn't know the name of the street between the railway tunnel un ... [more]

[Image taken 19.10.21] Bootham Terrace, York. Another abandoned sign. Ripe for abusing, damaging, destroying. But it will belong to an organisation and have cost them money to buy and will cost money to replace. Other images today: #175094. ... [more]

This new stretch of cycleway between Malmö and Lund was put in so quickly that some of the crops are still growing to the left of the track. The lights have not yet been installed.

The people of Genova have started using the wheelbenders rather than the railings for some reason - see #91906

No Cycling sign opposite Pisa cathedral. But the modal filter has clearly been moved to let larger vehicles through.

Modal filter on the main pedestrian route towards Pisa cathedral and the leaning tower - lots of cyclists use this road, along with lots of people eating outside the many restaurants.

Scope for a (seasonally flooding) cycle track along the Arno?

[Image taken 17.10.21] York railway station, York. [NOTE: No streetview at this location.] Hurrah! At least one underpass has imagery in it. Several years ago I did a walk around with an LNER manager. This was his work place, plus he was ma ... [more]

[Image taken 17.10.21] Nuffield Hospital, Haxby Road, York. There is room for the trike (or other wider cycle or a group of cycles sharing a lock/locks) only on the end of the run of Sheffields (racks). There is insufficient space between t ... [more]

A recommended route for cycling in Dornal Avenue.

The entrance to the cycle path at Greenlaw Road has been receiving some attention. However, the two plastic bollards that control access have gone missing.

The plastic bollard at the entrance to the cycle path at Dock Street has gone missing.

A direction sign for the cycle parking at the Golden Jubilee Hospital on the riverside path. The cycle parking has moved due to building work, and has been replaced by a number of double deck units.

A direction sign for the canal access that has completely faded out at the roundabout at the hospital western exit. The pedestrian crossing is also completely out on both sides.

A broken sign on the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath at Dalmuir.

It was interesting watching (from the other side of the junction) the differing strategies employed by drivers when confronted with traffic signals where both the red lights were faulty. The impatient ones assumed wrongly that the signals f ... [more]

  • Icon 175097 This is already a cycle path, but Green Lane is overgrown and is not a secure place to cycle as it is secluded. This needs to be opened up and could form a traffic-free link to Alma Park and the new path being installed by the Woodland Trust to link to Londonthorpe Woods car park and beyond. Potential link to NCN15 heading east to Sleaford.
  • Icon 175096 The A52 is very busy and dangerous to cross for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. There is enough room to install a path alongside the road from Bottesford to the site of the old railway bridge embankment. Then install a ramp and footbridge over the A52 and link to the remaining trackbed and on to the start of the NCN15 cycle route just south of Muston. This would provide a safe route for all to enter the Vale of Belvoir from Bottesford and further afield. The railway infrastructure is already there.
  • Icon 175062 There is no room for safe cycling with children
  • Icon 175052 Join up path through to Rigler Road
  • Icon 175050 Widen the paths to make it safer for getting to school. Narrow the road to Single lane to deter unsafe drop off
  • Icon 175029 Fatal: cyclist and bin lorry “The coroner couldn't think of anything that might prevent this happening again.”
  • Icon 175028 These railings on the path are dangerous, not wheelchair, pram friendly. Probably not legal. This route needs to be opened up and improved for pedestrians, wheelchair and buggy users, and cycles.
  • Icon 175027 Not just here but all over the city until the last bus we need brighter street lighting to make streets safe to walk in especially when getting off buses.
  • Icon 174993 Why 3 lanes needed here for vehicles? Plenty of space for a cycle lane
  • Icon 174992 More and better crossings needed here for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Icon 174991 Narrow junction significantly make it safer for cyclists and pedestrians
  • Icon 174968 This cycle path across Old Wareham Road is ridiculously dangerous. Needs a proper crossing put in here.
